Assertiveness --- Be assertive, Learn to say No!!!

Attended a training on Assertiveness last week,
Penned down the essence in a short poem:

Lack of Confidence and Conviction,
A ‘Passive’ person ends up in Depression.

Selfish, Rude and Angry,
For an ‘Aggressive’ person its always I, Myself and Me.

Empathy Confidence and Honesty,
For ‘Assertiveness’ that's the key.
Knowing Rights and Respecting,
Will Help in Prioritizing.

Be a blend of Passive, Aggressive and Assertive,
Make the situation decide your behavior out of the three.

Light Pollution-- What's next??

A new dimension added these days to the world of ‘Pollution’ is the ‘Light Pollution’.I was really confused to come across this term and immediately googled it and came across so much of information. Must admit I was totally unaware of this type of pollution.

Like food, water, sleep our biological body clock also requires darkness.
But because of the changing trends and use of lots of lights at night, the night sky is looking less and less dark. Light pollution has become a common term especially in the western countries, where the Downtown areas have more than required light at night.

A look at the night skies in this areas show the change in the darkness of the night. This may affect the ecosystems as well as might have adverse effects on the health.Looking at the other side of this coin it is also resulting in mass wastage of vital resources such as power.

Thankfully this pollution is one that can be taken care of most easily than the other forms of pollution. All it needs is awareness about this form of pollution.

A poem on the occassion of Dad in Law's Bday

Dad! On your Bday, a thought came to our minds: WHY GOD CREATED 'FATHERS'?
Then thought about the answer in the form of a poem

GOD created a Father to give his Love and Care,
He holds your finger in life so that you never get scared.

GOD created a Father to show which path is right,
He guides you through the problems and makes your day bright.

GOD created a Father to be like a shadow for you,
He makes sure all your dreams come true.

So here's wishing you a very Happy Birthday,
May all the joys, happiness and success mark your way,
Many Many Happy Returns of the Day.

I Still Remember…..

I Still Remember when I first saw you,
It was the College Function Venue.
You looked at me and gave a Smile,
And I think I liked your Style.

I Still Remember the day you talked,
How fast my heart was beating, but I just mocked.
You asked for a pen and smiled again,
The girls teased me, but I didn't pretend.

I Still Remember the day we danced,
It was on a party and a luck by chance.
You looked in my eyes and my heart was gone,
Dancing together, everything was outshone.
The party ended, the music had stopped,
But we danced hand in hand, till the Dawn broke.

I Still Remember the Christmas Eve,
It was the day you made me believe,
You were on your knees, with a Rose in hand,
And a promise to make my life Special and Grand.
My answer was 'Yes' with a tear drop.
You caught and kissed it like a Dewdrop.

I Still Remember our Wedding day,
It was the sunny month of May.
The Ceremonies completed and you came my way,
I was blushing, but you asked me "How much Do You Weigh?"
Furious! I looked at you in Dismay,
The very next moment it was in your arms I lay.

I Still Remember all the times we shared,
With Happiness & Joy kissing us paired.
Always together we remain; this is what I pray to God 'Amen'.

A Cloud with Silver Lining

Blasts here and Blasts there, Lost of hope everywhere.
Fear has taken the place of hope, Bad Times are here to cope.
Every night when my eyes sleep, It’s my heart that silently weeps.
In this world, with terror reigning,
All I wish is a Cloud with Silver Lining...

Bangalore Vs Delhi

Being a Software Engineer and a North Indian, my mind always duels on the Bangalore Vs Delhi-NCR debate. It may sound funny but I feel there are two fictious characters in my mind each supporting Delhi and Bangalore. I call them Ms Deni and Mr. Bang quite representative of the cities they support. One fine day on my way back home the battle of words started again between the two of them and I thought of penning down the conversation.
Mr. Bang starts the conversation, Bangalore makes you fall in love with its weather. Sometimes it gets to be a long tiring day and those packed traffic jams. But then all of a sudden you get kissed by the gentle breeze and pearl like rain-drops, phew! You get refreshed and forget how cruel the day has been. The weather in Bangalore acts like a cooling balm for all the headaches of the day.
Ms Deni nods sarcastically and speaks, if you had been in Delhi, then due to better infrastructure esp. the roads, you might not have struck in the traffic jam on the first place and reached home in time and spent a relaxed evening.
Mr. Bang looks confused and simply nods and agrees as Ms Deni starts her daily countdown of the goodies Delhi-NCR offers- Better infrastructure, more traffic rules, close proximity to my home town, less cost of living, good to taste North Indian food, festive joys and she sighs lots more.
Mr. Bang listens patiently and then a wicked smile comes on his face, he's got a point-- He tells Ms Deni about his acquaintance who used to cry as she was made a victim of eaves teasing everyday in public buses , railway stations, market places and where not. And I am sure many girls including you Ms Deni would agree to it.
Mr. Bang asks Ms Deni have you or any of your friends ever experienced eave teasing in Bangalore. Ms Deni thought for a while but her answer as Mr. Bang has expected was a plain “No”
Mr. Bang continues lots of my female friend’s infact feel much safer in Bangalore than in Delhi. And I think its because of the increased percentage of educated women in Bangalore, who know their rights and don't feel shy to sell vegetables on a vendor trolley or to become a bus conductor. The fact remains that when it comes to women safety, education and empowerment Bangalore definitely scores over Delhi.
Ms Deni laughs and exclaims you are talking about women empowerment have you forgotten about the women leaders of Delhi like Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Mrs. Sheila Dixit etc. Mr. Bang gets irritated and says Oh! Come on we are not discussing politics lets talk about real life in which you and me live.
Mr. Bang says talking about women education and empowerment brings me to think about IT industry. Many people won’t agree but I am sure many won’t deny as well and I personally too feel that being the IT Den the work culture in Bangalore is far more professional than in Delhi.
Ms Deni was getting hard hit by Mr. Bang's comments and then she knew it was time for her master stroke. She asks Mr. Bang, Is Life all about work and being comfortable? What about family and personal life?
Mr. Bang replies Bangalore does offer numerous weekend gateways and is situated close proximity to various popular holiday destinations.
Ms Deni smiles again and says But the fact that remains is that on weekdays when you reach home late at night due to the hour and half long traffic jam(which probably got extended today by another half an hour due to the rains) you hardly get time to spend with your family. And when you finally lie on the bed ready to call off the day, you are left wondering, Is life all about work & work & work? You can't attend your close friend's wedding, can't reach sometimes on a funeral, can't share in person your parent's joys and sorrows. Is it all they brought you up for?
Mr. Bang could see the winners gaze coming out of Ms Deni 's eyes and thought of reminding her of their last trip to Delhi.(On their last visit to Delhi, Mr. Bang had promised Ms Deni that he would try and look at Delhi with a new approach) You forgot what we saw, let me refresh your memories. You didn’t like the Delhi airport as compared to its Bangalore counterpart. When we went to have lunch; to your surprise you didn’t like it all. Then we were struck in an hour long traffic jam, we carried a fear of terror attacks while going through our favorite market places. Adding upon it was the heat of the summer which was making us loose our temper again and again.
Ms Deni contradicts and says it could have been a matter of chance. Now Mr. Bang starts clapping and jumping and exclaims that all the things in Delhi were falling out of place again and again.
Ms Deni was left lost with words and Oops, the driver blew the horn and I had reached my bus spot and Mr. Bang became the winner of the day.

Thought this article needs special attention ;) so created a separate blog for it http://bangalore-delhi.blogspot.com/

Autumn Leaves

Like Autumn Leaves.....life falls on its ground,
I lay there............gathering them around!
Not a whisper or splash of sound,
Hmm! as if near a HOUND.
The leaves baked in Sun or their fate,
But when they fell, they knew it was late!
What's gone is gone forever,
It can't come back ....never!
Like Autumn Leaves....things went astray,
There was no looking back, no happiness or gay,
Were these really Autumn Leaves or some yester years
Or some closed ones and some dear(s).
Thump! There the wind comes and wipes,
And on the lonely tree, there's one leaf that cries,
For neither its living nor fallen off,
Past is gone, Present is nothing and Future a sad song!
Thump! How its waiting for its turn to come,
Thinking life has given it days.......some!!

Hostel

Living in a Hostel.... is very boring,
You can always see boarders snoring,
You sleep late at night,
They wake you at Twilight,
You fear that you will fail,
Its not less than a Jail!
Trivia: Wrote this poem when I was in 8th Std. Studied in St Mary's Convent School, Kasauli and was a Boarder. Really used to miss my Family a lot then!!!

Celebrating Friendship

'Sep-25 The day we became Friends!'
This was the day we became friends,
Amidst all jealousies and offends.
With so many lectures to attend,
We met on all days beyond extend!
Our friendship was on a boom,
And everything else took a back room.
From exams to bunks,
We made sure none of us flunk!!
Of all the times Out and In,
We've stuck together through thick and thin.
On this day my friend I raise you a toast,
To signify, this is the friendship I boast!
I am so happy to find you, my friend,
With you I began my journey of love,
which has no end!!!

Which turn would I suffice
